My parents named me Robert Maxwell Goodwin, but always called me “Max.” In preschool there were a bunch of Maxs in my class and one way to differentiate us was to put the “R” from Robert in front of “Max,” giving me the nickname “Rmax.” At home I was “Max” and at preschool I was “Rmax” until one day out in public someone asked me my name and I responded “Rmax,” surprising my parents, until they learned the story from my teachers. The name stuck and I’ve been Rmax ever since.

Typically I join the company’s virtual meeting and I’m spotlit. I’m made “co-host” and assume responsibility for hosting the whole show. This way everyone else can sit back and enjoy the show. Using additional software and hardware I create custom viewing windows so I can interact efficiently with guests. Throughout the show I’ll call on guests randomly to read their minds through the screen. Several effects incorporate everyone watching so the whole audience is involved. The show is designed for adults, but it’s family-friendly and the whole family is welcome to join. Depending on the client and the event goals, I’ll customize effects to the event/company. Since the content of the show is derived from the thoughts and choices of your guests, the entire show is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that couldn’t happen anywhere else with any other audience. I perform at both small and large private and corporate events nationwide. My smallest event was a private party for four guests and my largest events have had several thousand in attendance. Private events include birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, house parties, holiday parties, you name it. And my corporate events include meetings, sales events, trainings, galas, award shows, trade shows, etc. My repertoire is broad enough to accommodate most events, but always reach out with your specific event details and we’ll let you know if it’s a good fit for the entertainment I perform.
Although most of my schedule is devoted to my private and corporate events, I do perform occasionally at the Magic Castle and at some ticketed events. Most of my shows are customized in some way to each audience. And when appropriate, I will incorporate additional program content into my show. Let us know what you have in mind, whether it’s a brand message, sales or training message, etc, and we’ll let you know if there’s a way to introduce it in a creative, memorable way that flows through the show. Customized shows always make for a more engaging, impactful experience for the guests.
My performance fees vary depending on the event, the location, and the date. I always suggest an entertainment structure specific to each event’s needs and the goals of the overall program. Given that specificity, I can only give quotes with an event in mind. Currently, I don’t give lessons.
I perform most often at corporate events and the entertainment is professional, inclusive, and absent of any foul language or offensive content. Since the show is very interactive, it’s really best for an English speaking audience. The entertainment is designed for adults and though it isn’t inappropriate for kids, it’s not meant to be a kids show.
I started learning close up magic when I was 6 or 7 years old. I read books and taught myself classical sleight of hand magic. At 14, I auditioned for and was accepted into the Magic Castle Junior Program in Hollywood, and began performing professionally there soon after. The experience introduced me to some of the world’s greatest magicians who mentored and guided me. After studying Philosophy in college, I began experimenting more with mentalism and now perform full time. I’m still studying and am fortunate to be part of a network of the world’s best magicians and mentalists.
I’ve consulted on numerous projects including America’s Got Talent Champions, nationwide touring theatre shows, and TV shows. I’ve been responsible for creating unique performance pieces, adding direction to existing effects and shows, as well as executing sleights/moves when actors are unable to. Mentalism is a sub-genre of magic focussed on presentations involving observation, influence, and prediction. It’s a dramatic performance relying on sleight-of-hand and psychological techniques.
